Break Into Business: Reflection

Well well well, where in the world do I even begin? Break Into Business is a non-profit in Atlanta that teaches young people to launch real businesses.

That’s right, real businesses.

BiB puts on a summer camp called B.camp that runs through the 5 P’s of Entrepreneurship: Product, Price, Place, Promotion, Pitch.

And then….. they sell. That’s right. Rubber hits the road and they sell their product to real customers walking down the street. And it is life changing to see in action.

These young entrepreneurs look rejection in the face and continue to sell. They get back up and sell again. They get to take home real profits and can call themselves entrepreneurs! It’s incredible.

But the real reason I wanted to share this blog with my Forth family is because these students learn really hard life lessons as middle schoolers. And honestly, they will be better for it in the end. I wanted to share my top 10 takeaways from teaching middle schoolers how to launch a business. Here goes nothing!

  1. No idea is a stupid idea. I see students think of product ideas that I HATE, and they always knock it out of the park.

  2. Budget is key in everything you do. Stick to your budget, always.

  3. If you can’t tell someone about your business, it’s only an idea, not a business.

  4. Being strategic about where you sell your product can make or break it.

  5. Working as a team can be CRAZY hard.

  6. Working as a team is the most important ingredient in success.

  7. Focusing on profit when you start your business will ultimately lead you to profit. It’s that simple.

  8. Having a good attitude makes people want to help you.

  9. Having a poor attitude will never lead people to wanting to help you.

  10. Believe in the younger generation! They’re brave, bold, kind, and smart beyond words!

Thanks, Break Into Business for letting me see these rock stars in action!
